Oh no… Rain!
The day unfolded as if in a dream yesterday…. a wonderful, delightful, beautiful dream… and … and then it rained!
But, despite the rain which brought a close to an outing at the lake, I have to say, I had a very good day yesterday. Who can complain about being able to sleep in on a Sunday? I did wake up a bit early and once I realized how silly it was to stay up while yawning big enough to create a backdraft across continental North America, I returned to bed and slept until I couldn’t sleep any more. It was wonderful!
At 12:00, I got the awaited phonecall from my girlfriend… “Let’s go to the lake!” Ha! Now you would think since I knew the night before that we were going to go, I would have had all my stuff prepared, but that would be so unlike A&A… noooo… I ran around, like a chicken with my head cut off, collecting the stuff I needed… towel, brush, snacks, pop, ipod, beach chair. Of course, I couldn’t find my floaties from the previous year, so I made a pit stop at the grocery store and purchased some new ones – a way to save time anyway as I had been asked to bring hotdogs and hotdog buns. Arriving at my girlfriends, I transfered everything from my trunk to hers and away we went.
The lake was sweet! There were clouds in the sky, floating by occasionally covering up the sun which was probably a good thing as it saved me from scorching myself with a really bad sunburn. The air matress I had purchased, I looked at dubiously as did my girlfriend and the other person we met out at the lake…. it really wasn’t very “big”… not much thickness to it, but I summoned up my courage and took it out for a try. My hunch was that the lack of lots of air in it was made up for by the width of it and I was right. In fact, I’d have to say that this air matress is by far, the best one I have ever owned. The thinness of it meant that as the waves created by the motorboats came towards shore, my matress bobbed and flexed with the waves, molding and riding them. It was heaven! I did that for about an hour, came in and had a bite to eat, and then headed out with the ‘noodle’… I felt my back and shoulders had had more than enough sun and the noodle would keep me pretty much under the water. Another hour of floating and I was about done for and headed back in.
To our dismay, my friend and I realized we would not be barbequing any hotdogs as there were no open firepits at the lake – only places where you could set up your portable bbq. Thank goodness for pretzels, sunflower seeds and fresh cut veggies! It was just as well we did not have the right stuff to bbq with because shortly after returning to shore, the rain started. Little bitty drops at first, and then… LOL… it poured! I’ve never seen a beach empty quite so fast and I laughed when my friend mused aloud about how strange it is that rain chases people away from the beach when we’re all wet anyway.
We packed our stuff back up, doing the deflation dance with the air mattresses… how come they are easy to inflate and so difficult to deflate? As we had the previous year, we deflated them just enough to stuff them carefully back into the trunk but being ever wary of the possibility of puncturing a hole in them. The drive back was done in what would be called a comfortable, relaxed silence. We did chat off and on, but mostly, we enjoyed the scenery. The majority of the conversation was to try to set up the next time we will go to the lake. We had discussed going today but turns out that my friend had several appointments today, one for tomorrow so the earliest is Wednesday. I think, based on what I see outside now for weather, it was just as well. The skies are overcast, a breeze is whipping through the trees and I suspect that rain is not too far in the offing.
Once I got home… LOL… I must be getting old… I lasted about ten minutes before I crawled into bed and had a three hour ‘nap’… aka one big freakin’ sleep! LOL!
I’m looking forward to Wednesday and we may follow it up with a trip to the lake on Thur & Fri as well. Weather permitting, I have all the time in the world. Hubby’s gone off on a week long road trip, and I’m needing to find things to occupy my time that don’t just include housework and does include things I can do that relax me and I feel safe doing. Got my fingers crossed for good weather!
Bye for now.
