Trip Fun … Quirks (a little anxiety)
I’ve been having a hoot on my trip. Thus far, it’s been two nights of laughter and sharing and I am so thankful that I managed to garner up the energy and the courage to take the trip.
We made pretty good time on the first leg of our trip and were blessed by prime driving conditions – no snow, no rain, and at worst, a little bit of traffic through the Fraser Canyon. We finally stopped in Hope, booked into a hotel, and spent about an hour dividing our time between the jacuzzi and the swimming pool. Once the tension from the trip had worn off, we sauntered over to the local pub for a beer and a scrumptious meal. Hehe… we had such a good time, we practically giggle-walked our way home from the pub.
Next morning… we arose ready to make the last little leg of our journey which would include a ferry trip from the Horseshoe Bay Terminal. But first we had to make sure we 1) found a Tim Horton’s to get a coffee and 2) I survived the trip through Vancouver.
I knew that traveling through Vancouver would be a challenge for me and my anxiety levels, and I passed the keys to my companion to allow her to drive. Suffice to say that at the end of our journey when we finally did get to the ferry terminal, I had fingernail marks in the dash of the car, and an foot impression on floor of the car where my foot would have been hitting an imaginary brake. I think this trip has illustrated to me how much I have become a nervous passenger and that I might need to be looking at ways to desensitize this nervousness lest I lose the ability to travel as a passenger in vehicles.
We did make it though and with lots of time to spare once we hit the ferry terminal… and we timed it just right too as the ferry we needed left at 20 minutes after every odd numbered hour. I experienced some panic once we got onto the ferry, and my friend was concerned about how I was doing. I don’t totally understand why I had the panic attack I did then except that this was the first point in the trip where I had no way of escaping or turning around. Deep breath and one ativan later, we went up to the next deck of the ferry and sat, waiting for the trip to get underway. Total ferry time was about an hour including loading and unloading time onto the ferry.
After getting off the ferry, we only had about a 20 minute drive to reach our destination. We drove through a little town called Gibsons, where if you are old enough and a Canadian TV buff, you know the show the Beachcombers was based out of (and I just found out we are going to go visit some of the specific landmarks from that show.. Yay! Expect more pictures soon!)
So.. that’s it up until now… we did the beach exploration yesterday. We (my friend and I) have otherwise spent hours and hours upon endless hours, chatting with our hosts, getting in animal snuggles (two dogs and one cat where we are) and making plans for the upcoming day.
Today we are awaiting the arrival of another guests, and have a big barbecue planned. Woohooo!
Bye for now.
